Support and Affirmation For Organisations Upholding Democratic Principles in Minnesota
Vancouver, 01 Feb 2026
The Morgane Oger Foundation writes in support of communities in Minnesota and elsewhere asserting their right to equal protection under the law and to freedom from discriminatory or democratically unsanctioned government action.
In democratic societies governed by the rule of law, communities are entitled to exist, assemble, and advocate without fear of arbitrary or disproportionate state interference. Government authority derives its legitimacy from democratic principles and processes, and must be exercised in a manner that is lawful, accountable, and non-discriminatory.
Independent legal observation and rights-based community support serve an essential public-interest function. Their presence helps ensure that government actions remain consistent with constitutional and human-rights obligations, particularly where enforcement activity risks undermining civil liberties or disproportionately affecting marginalized communities.
The Foundation affirms that the protection of communities includes both protection by public institutions and protection from abuses of power. Peaceful, non-violent efforts to observe, document, and uphold legal standards strengthen democratic governance, reinforce public trust, and contribute to social stability.
We express our support for individuals and organizations acting in good faith to uphold these principles, and for communities asserting their lawful right to safety, dignity, and equal protection.
The Morgane Oger Foundation is a Canadian federally-registered nonprofit society working to increase equality and justice for all Canadians. Our goal is to diminish the gap between the federal and provincial law of Canada and its application through education, advocacy, and participation in legal interventions.
